The ‘Green Circus’ online campaign was held on both Instagram and Facebook.
The Final Year Public Relations and Advertising students of Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) organized an online campaign entitled ‘Green Circus’ to share the idea of going green to the public from 22th November to 5th December.

The campaign played the role of emissary of the Earth to spread awareness, inspire and enlighten the youth of the importance of “green knowledge”. It aims to invoke people to preserve the Earth no matter which race and religion.

The president of the ‘Green Circus’ online campaign, Kerryane Tan Kai Yan explained that they choose ‘go green’ as the main theme of this campaign because climate change is a trendy topic nowadays.

Kerryane hopes to provoke the partcipants’ interests in going green.

“We think that it is very good for people to be more alert and also make out some alternatives to avoid these issues to continue happening since the climate is changing. And for our research the whole earth’s temperature is going to rise 1.5 degree Celsius in 2030,” Kerryane said.

Numerous activities were lined up throughout the campaign such as green photo contest, live show, webinar, drawing competition and interactive poll.

“The Light of Environment” drawing competition Gained The Most Response

According to Kerryane, “The Light of Environment” drawing competition was one of the activities that gained the most response by hitting over thousands of people and it is a good occurrence.

“This is a chance for us to spread the idea of ‘go green’, at the same time giving them an idea to repurpose their unused paper or something that should be thrown away into something more creative. ” Kerryane added.

Celina Chin Jin Feng, a student who participated in “The Light of Environment” drawing competition, designed a window for the drawing competition where during the opening of the window, everyone is working to improve the environment. The world and the mind are both opened through the window.

The partcipants use their creativity

to create the artworks using reusable materials.

She said that the purpose of the activities in promoting public awareness about the importance of taking care of the environment is wonderful.

“I learnt a lot about the environmental facts from their useful information, which inspires me to start cleaning up my local environment and maintain the 5Rs habit.” Celina stressed.

Participants were motivated Through “Youth and the Environment” Webinar
The campaign has infused new GO green knowledge to the participants

Program and Project Officer in Penang Green Council, Miss Kimberly Wong Jin Li was invited to share in the webinar entitled “Youth and the Environment”. She urged the public to look into the issue of the environment urgently as the world is moving into another stage which is a climate crisis.

She said that the speed of the Earth warm-up is scary and research predicted that if people do not do anything, the whole earth is going to rise 1.5 degree Celsius in 2030. People should take an eye on this issue and practice 5Rs which includes restore, reduce, reuse, recycle and disposal.

“This is our only home, our planet. We only have this planet. This Earth was created just suitable for humans to stay but if we don’t protect it, we are going to face consequences.” Kimberly added.

Khooney Tan from bachelor degree in Communications (Media Production), an emcee and also a participant in the webinar said that he has gained a lot from the webinar.

He said youngsters always have a stereotypical mindset that they are still young so even if they put some effort in going green, it won’t make such a big difference. But the fact is not.

Khooney likes the style of the campaign which makes ‘go green’ interesting.

“Every part counts when it comes to ‘go greening’. Even if you are doing it a little, it actually still contributes to saving mother nature.” Khonney added.

Khooney also said that the campaign has made ‘go green’ into a completely different perspective which changed his mindset that ‘go greening’ is not a stereotypical and traditional topic and the campaign has made him more interested in ‘go greening’.
