Everyone craves a clean and organized home. But it is challenging for people nowadays because everyone is living with a busy schedule and quickly becomes frustrated by their own lack of organization. Do you realize a new rising career, professional organizer, that takes people’s stress out of the home organization?

A professional organizer often called a “miracle worker”, assists in setting home organization goals and guides clients through the process of decluttering and organizing their homes.

Since young, Casey loves to help her family and relatives to organize their home.
Turning An Interest into A Career

Casey, a certified professional organizer based in Kuala Lumpur who stepped into her career journey two years ago shared her experience in this industry.

Casey was interested in assisting her family and relatives in organizing homes since she was young. She was attracted to this career after watching the TV programme of other countries and listening to a talk on professional organizers in Malaysia but she was not a professional organizer at that time.

During the MCO, Casey took chance to turn her interest into a career.

“The talk leaves a strong impression on me. Why don’t I engage in this career path to do something that I really enjoy doing, while at the same time lending a hand to people who struggle with home organization? It is meaningful.” Casey expressed.

The Movement Control Order in 2020 was a turning point for Casey as she lost her job. After adequate consideration, she decided to make a breakthrough in pursuing her dream to become a professional organizer.

She created her own Facebook page, MARI HOME, at the same time attended courses and obtained a certificate from Japan in decluttering and organizing services.

Encouragement from the Clients

Casey recalled back the most unforgettable moment when she met her first client. She was trembling with nervous excitement. Fortunately, the client was warm-hearted and even cooked them noodles.

“We just found that the client is a veteran actress. On that day, she shared her feelings and experience on Facebook, recommending our service to her followers. Her encouragement is my driving force to persist in my career path.” Casey said.

Working Scope of a Professional Organizer

Casey is classifying the clothes taken out from the wardrobe.

When being asked about her working scope, Casey explained the process of decluttering a home. First, she would start with assisting the clients in organizing the wardrobe by classifying the clothes and eliminating the unwanted clothes.

“We take everything out, organize and sort out unwanted items, then put everything back. Besides decluttering, we would also discuss with clients to decide what the purpose of their spaces should be, and to establish those spaces in ways that can be easily maintained.”Casey explained.

Throughout the process, she usually offers support for decision-making, facilitates actions around the removal of unnecessary items that assist her clients impose order and clarity.

Assist Clients Work Through Psychological Part

Sometimes a professional organizer plays a role as an advisor to talk with the clients in order to get to the root of disorganization and help them work through the psychological part. They play a crucial role to assist clients grappling with fears about loss of abundance.

“If clients refuse to get rid of something unwanted, I would listen patiently to the reasons given by them and try my best to enlighten them. Usually, they would listen to me and make up their mind to cut off meaningless things.”

Casey’s client’s home turns clean and organized after throwing away unwanted items.

Professional Organizer is not a Maid

Although it is a meaningful job, this career is still yet to be fully discovered in Malaysia. Casey explained that a lot of Malaysians have messed up the roles of a professional organizer and a maid.

“Professional organizer is not a maid. We are not here to help you clean, we are here to get you organized. We develop custom organizing systems to declutter a home that best suits the clients’ daily habits.” Casey stressed.

Until now, Casey has worked for more than 100 homes. She hopes that she is able to assist more people in enhancing their lives through organizing and decluttering their homes. She said that if she can be there side-by-side with her client in the trenches, that is the kind of support that people need.

As a professional organizer, Casey turns a lot of messy houses into clean and organized houses.
