NBA: LeBron James leads LA Lakers fightback, New York Knicks lose to Brooklyn Nets

Evaluation

Story

This story is about LeBron James scoring 15 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter as the Los Angeles Lakers won 106-101 against the visiting Utah Jazz on Wednesday. The journalist wrote in a smooth and clear way by explaining the background of the players that might affect the results of the match. For example, it was mentioned that Anthony Davis had injured towards the end of the second quarter and the coach for the San Antonio Spurs is in the second in the all-time NBA list as he has recorded the 1,333 wins of his head-coaching career. Besides that, the journalist also included quotes from the coach which are very crucial to help in explaining the moves and situations of the players to the readers. For example, coach Frank Vogel said that LeBron did with his energy, will and determination to take over a game in the fourth quarter. Moreover, when Nets rookie Cam Thomas scored 16 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, Knicks veteran coach Tom Thibodeau said that he got to play tough with a lead when he got a big lead and he had not done that well. Other than that, the journalist also stated all the results of the matches in detail which is what the readers would like to know. In a nutshell, the journalist also informed the readers about the latest updates of the NBA results.

Multimedia Elements (Videos/audios/photo galleries)

The multimedia elements that were included in the story are static photos and an embedded Twitter post on the updates of the NBA’s results. The photo is crucial to show the scene of the match and this is also a suitable photo to show the movement of the players. Next, it is a clever way for the journalist to put an embedded Twitter post because the reader can know the latest update and have a clear image of the NBA’s results by looking at the result table. Plus, the readers can click on the post to see some comments or more information about the NBA’s results.

Suggestions on Repackaging the Content

Story

The event has been comprehensively covered. However, there are a few things that can be improved to better target online consumers. First, besides interviewing the coaches, the journalist can also interview the players on their feelings, experiences and also their tactics to richen the content of this story. This also provides different perspectives to the readers to better understand the match. Some information from the players may be something that the readers are interested in or would like to know. If the journalist would like to add on some new content, he or she can also interview the supporters of the players from both sides. Moreover, in order to make the content more interesting, the journalist can also describe some of the scenes during the match in detail like how the players grab the balls and throw the ball into the net. It can bring the readers to the scene to imagine that they are watching the match now.

Multimedia Elements (Videos/audios/photo galleries)

There is only one photo used in this story so the story is not attractive enough. The journalist is recommended to add more photos to better describe the matches or a photo gallery can be made to engage the readers too. Next, an audio or a video can also be attached to this story to make the story more interesting and enables the readers to take a look at what is happening in the match. It may give a better experience to the readers. Besides that, the journalist can also create an infographic on the NBA’s results instead of using texts completely. An infographic is a powerful tool to allow people to easily digest information through the use of visual data.
